Marie Curie Partners with esynergy to build a Single Customer View

Data Non-profit

Marie Curie is a UK-based charity that offers care and support for people living with terminal illnesses. As a non-profit fueled by fundraising and volunteers, effectively engaging the organization’s broad community of supporters is essential to achieving its mission of closing the gap in end-of-life care.

However, with donor and volunteer data fragmented across four systems, Marie Curie lacked the comprehensive visibility and efficiency needed to optimize marketing, donor relations, and volunteer coordination efforts. The organization decided to pursue a single customer view platform to unlock its collective power to drive social impact.

Partnering for Success

To accelerate its data modernization vision, Marie Curie conducted an extensive review process and selected esynergy as its implementation partner. Attracted by esynergy’s track record of delivery with non-profits and cloud data platform expertise, Marie Curie kicked off their partnership in September 2023.

In close collaboration with Marie Curie’s team, esynergy rapidly engineered a Microsoft Azure-based MVP Single Customer View, achieving an initial consolidation of over 1 million donor and volunteer records in just 6 weeks. Once in production, the solution will provide a 360-degree view of supporters with detailed activity history, enabling much more personalized and impactful engagement. Marie Curie are achieving robust automated data linkages for the Single Customer View by leveraging best-of-breed technologies such as Azure Databricks and the open-source Splink framework.

Driving immediate impact

Within just 6 weeks, the new single supporter view capability is set to profoundly impact how Marie Curie engages its community. Specifically, the solution is being positioned to enable two massive quick-win capabilities:

  1. Unified insights at scale – with over 1 million records harmonized into a single source of truth, Marie Curie have proved the capability to provide on-demand access to 360-degree insights about donors and volunteers. Fundraising managers will soon be able to analyze participation across engagement channels to optimize activities and Marketing campaigns will be able to micro-target specific supporter segments based on interests and activity history.

  1. Operational efficiency – consolidating data from 4 systems will dramatically reduce manual reporting efforts previously required. Marie Curie staff across functions can expect soon to self-serve trusted data and analytics via interactive Power BI dashboards connected to the platform. Automation handled by the system will eliminate significant duplicate data entry needs.

As more use cases are identified and built out, the organization will realize more of its ambitious end-of-life care access goals.

Using integrated data for predictive analytics, we’ll better anticipate needs of our diverse supporter community. We’re grateful to innovate shoulder-to-shoulder with partners like esynergy who share our purpose.

Ongoing Innovation

With the single supporter view capability bedding in, Marie Curie is continuing to work with esynergy to enrich its data and analytics capabilities. Upcoming phases will focus on integrating predictive machine learning for donor retention, embedding CX use cases like web personalization and generating a Large Language Model (LLM) over clinical case notes to allow previously impossible insight and analysis that it is hoped will have positive effects on clinical care.

Marie Curie has affirmed its commitment to doubling involvement in end-of-life care services nationwide. Unlocking the full potential of data and technology will play an instrumental role in making this vision a reality. The organization looks forward to an ongoing collaboration as it transforms community engagement in service of the greater good.

Through close collaboration, we integrated Marie Curie's data into an engagement engine that will ultimately help millions receive end-of-life care. We're excited to continually build upon the now existing foundation toward that future.
