Overview
An expert panel of industry leaders
Self-service development has long been considered an essential characteristic of cloud computing, it allows engineers to develop and ship code faster, releasing new features and products to market with speed. However, it can be one of the hardest cloud-based capabilities to implement.
In this session of Tech Series, we were joined by Steve Wade, who discussed how he led Mettle (part of NatWest’s business banking innovation arm), in the creation of a self-service platform for engineers, that’s allowing them to successfully deploy hundreds of changes to production per week with confidence.
Steve Wade
Senior Platform Engineer
Steven led the Platform Team at Mettle building a business banking proposition for SMEs. He was responsible for: Architecting and leading the team on the build-out of a Kubernetes centric platform on AWS. Embedding the use of Helm, Kustomize and GitOps principles across the organization. Implementing the monitoring and alerting mechanism using Prometheus and Thanos. Training the engineering team on Kubernetes and Cloud-Native best practices. Recruiting of both permanent staff and contractors into the organization. Using tools such as Terraform, Prometheus, Grafana, Fluentbit, Helm and Weave Flux.
