Laying the Foundations
Aligning on what good governance looks like and what it delivers
To get started, we’ll establish a shared understanding of what data governance means not just in theory, but in practice. Rather than a traditional 101, this will be a collaborative discussion to:

Frameworks, roles, and responsibilities
Together we will unpack the frameworks that shape data governance and the key roles that bring it to life. You’ll get a clear view of the landscape, what frameworks (DAMA-DMBOK) and standards (ISO/IEC 38505-1 & 8000-51) exist, how they might apply to your organisation, and how to align with or adapt them to design an approach that fits your context.
Participants will identify who currently holds key data governance roles in your organisation—such as data owners, stewards, custodians and consumers. You’ll surface gaps, overlaps, and areas needing clarity to start building a clearer picture of accountability. Participants will walk away with a clear understanding of how misalignment on governance terms and roles contributes to regulatory breaches, and what ‘good’ looks like in top-performing financial organisations.

From there, we’ll look at how to operationalise governance through key tools and processes, including:
Homework: Participants will complete a simplified data contract template to practice defining clear roles, rules, and responsibilities in a data flow.
